There is no longer a need to do business with a supplier in another state that you never get to see, deal with customer service operators you can only reach during limited business hours, or someone who does nothing more to help you than ship merchandise and let you figure out the rest for yourself.  We are right here in Central PA and committed to serving you best.

In fact our customers are so pleased with our products, our performance and what we do for them that we consistantly re-book most of our groups before school is out for Christmas break, with the majority of those outstanding signing up before March 1st year after year.

Even those who "stray" and try another supplier generally come back the following year saying they were sorry they didn't use our Kids Korner™ program all along.

We also have some great incentives for customers who use both our Holiday Shoppe program our Fundraising service.

Kids Korner cash registers vs. competitors' systems:

One of the large, nationwide holiday shoppe programs has done away with the use of the cash register for holiday shoppes and is promoting the use of a Smart Phone "app" by PTO volunteers to check out students. They claim it's "easier" for group volunteers, but the concept does nothing more than eliminates their expense of purchasing, maintaining and delivering cash registers to their customers. It seems they don’t know the first thing about why the Cash Register was introduced by Kids’ Korner Gift Shoppes® so many years ago.

This idea sounds great on paper except:

1) Where is the receipt for the parents?

We suggest that the Parent Group attach a receipt with the change to the Gift Guide Envelope so the parent can see how the money was spent (not on what). This helps prevent Kids’ Korner and the parent group from getting a bad rap.

This idea was generated a long time ago when a parent made the comment that her daughter was ripped off at the holiday store. It seems she had sent $20.00 to school and the girl only brought home a hand full of cheap items. When we asked to see the items and totaled them up the purchase came to $3.50. The lady asked her daughter where the rest of the money was – it seems she spent the left over money on herself, but Kids’ Korner and the PTO were getting the bad rap.

2) Where are the total sales for the group (school) to balance the books?

Many schools used to use coin boxes and calculators to do sales. We had one school that kept reordering thousands of dollars of product each day. At the end of the sale we happily counted the leftovers and handed them a bill for more than $6,000. However, they weren’t happy as the chairperson had only deposited $4,100.00 not the $6,600.00 it should have been. Bottom line: cash register totals and actual cash MUST be balanced at the end of each sales day, just like any other business using a cash register. It is the only way to know where your money is at all times.

3) Where are the quantity totals of each price group so the group can do easy inventory . . . or do they have to inventory all product in and out?

A number of our customers use our "EASY INVENTORY" system. Done right, the PTOs love it because it saves them time and volunteer labor. Without cash register totals at the end of the sale, this feature would be impossible to offer. Again, if there is a discrepancy with the money, it is much harder to figure out where the problem came from.

4) What about the long lines waiting to check out?

An issue the competitors claim using a phone app solves is the long lines of kids waiting to be checked out. They suggest three people with phones and cash boxes will speed everything up. We have a school that does $5,000.00 in 4 hours with one cash register. We showed them how COSTCO handled their customers before scanning – one person calls out the price code and puts the gifts into the child’s bag, while another handles the cash register and money exclusively. One less person than they suggest, plus it's faster and more accurate.

5) What about programming the cash register?

Some customers are afraid they will have to program the cash register and a few have even told us that they had to program competitors' registers in the past. The truth is any distributor delivering a non programmed cash register or a hard to program cash register should not be in this business. We deliver a pre-programmed cash register to all of our customers who choose to use it. Just one time in over 15 years, we had a customer that we had given a cash register to that lost it's programming. Our registers use a simple, single page program sheet, we helped them over the phone and they were up and running in less then 3 minutes.

6) What if the volunteers don’t have a smart phone?

Guess they have to purchase one. They usually sell for upwards of $500.00 each at the mall. Our cash registers are rent free and pre-programmed. We'll also loan them to our customers for use at their book fairs or carnivals upon request.

7) What happens when the battery runs out or they get a phone call?

Of course this would never happen in a perfect world, but in reality . . . .
Our cash registers run on standard 110 volt current and in 15 plus years we have only ever had a couple of problems with power. One lady who didn’t realize that you actually needed to plug it in for it to work (she was fine after she borrowed an extension cord) and another situation where the school had an electrical spike over the night and it fried the machine. We delivered a new register right away and they were good as new.

The bottom line is to give up using our cash register for a phone app would be like giving up a wireless laptop for a slide-rule. Kids Korner pioneered using the cash registers many years ago and the others are still trying to find a way to get "one-up" on us.
